Hello,
we use WordPress as CMS and control the firing of the HubSpot cookie via the Google Tag Manager and a cookie consent tool.
Only if the user accept, the HubSpot cookie is set.
On our website, when analyzing conversion as well as traffic, most users are coming from “direct traffic”. There is not much additional info in the drill-downs.
I am not certain so that is why I wanted to ask: If someone is declining HubSpot cookies, does HubSpot count the user visit as “direct traffic”?
That would be an explanation for the high turnout of direct traffic.
Thank you in advance!
@DerFabian Here’s a resource on traffic sources from HubSpot, which would lead me to believe that your thinking is in the realm of possibility. This knowledge base article has more information. “No referring domain or tracking URL” means HubSpot classifies it as Direct Traffic, which would lead me to believe that if they’re essentially in cognito, it may be bucketed into DT, yes.
Thank you very much for the answer!
Are there any suggestions or workarounds for handling this direct traffic?
I have similar issues with seeing volume of direct traffic.
In some cases, I believe it’s cookie-related as mentioned here. In other cases, I have parts of my website that are built on different platforms, and believe traffic may go from main site to the conversion page, which appears like it’s coming direct, especially if there are NOT UTMs on the ref URL to help with pulling those into hidden form fields.
