We just switched our newsletter to Hub Spot from Constant Contact and the open rate is much lower. About 45% with Constant Contact and about 25% with Hub Spot. Anyone else had that experience? Anything about Hub Spot that would cause this? I’ve heard that with gmail if the newsletter is longer and truncates that it doesn’t get counted when it’s opened. Did I make that up?
Any advice or explanation would be appreciated. I don’t want to return to Constant Contact because I loose the connectivity info.
If this is your first send on HubSpot, it’s likely that ISPs don’t know who you are anymore (you swapped IPs). This will take a bit of time to recover (2-3 weeks) with a regular send schedule. I highly recommend checking out Google **bleep** as it’ll show you how Google (Gmail + Gsuite) sees your domain from authentication, span reports, to domain reputation. You can also check out other email tools like Send Forensics which help with content structure and understanding your SpamAssassin score as well.
Thanks for this helpful reply. We are experiencing the same thing and it’s super frustrating!
Can you please send the link for the above - “Google**bleep**” ?
My client is having the same problem. They were on Constant Contact and had 40% open rates. I moved them to Hubspot and their opens dropped to 13%. We’ve had numerous people look at our set-up and everything is setup correctly. Nobody has had any advice. They’ve been using Hubspot for a year and it’s not getting better.
Two weeks ago I had them send out two newsletters:
1. Via Hubspot: ONLY to the engaged people
2. Via Constant Contact: to all the people who have NOT been engaged
Same newsletters. Same subject line. Same everything, except we split the lists.
Lo and behold, the Hubspot list went up to 40% again (not surprising).
More importantly, the Constant Contact list went up to 30% - these were people who were NOT engaged on Hubspot!!!
We are having the same issues: Constant Contact is 30% but HubSpot is only %13. However! The click through rate is the same, and the same amount of people are interacting with the email. Maybe HS just calculates the open rate differently?
I’m when we split them up, the click through rates have been the same in HS and CC. When all in HS, they are abysmal.
I’ve been trying to find out how each calculated open and click through. You and i are thinking the same there. For instance, sometimes, I’ve found, whenever a person opens up Outlook, it counts as an “open” for the emails in the inbox.
Same with me. If I send emails to the exact same list using Hubspot and a competitor, I get open rates below 20% with Hubspot and in the 50% to 70% range with a competitor. Hubspot must be doing something on their end. Everything is the same when sending, except through different plastforms. I have actually tested it on another platform and I was in the 50% open rates. Everything drops drastically when we use Hubspot and it has gotten worse in 2023.
@ssharptulsa I am having a similar issue and we have been using HubSpot for 2 years and Constant Contact for 6 months. The emails we’re sending are more marketing campaign focused. Any additional advice or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
