New contacts with past email opens and clicks + scoring

Often newly created contacts have past email opens and email clicks in their property histories.

1) I assume this is because their emails were previously associated with other contacts who received tracked emails, and that activity is logged under the new contact record…?

2) Is there a way to keep this from happening? Contacts with a certain number of past opens/clicks automatically receive high HubSpot scores and are moved to MQLs, which messes up MQL tracking and identification.

Hi @nbrown,

If you’re seeing automatic property updates for past email interactions, those emails would also show up in the activity timeline of the contact. Have you checked the timeline? Are the emails there addressed to that contact or not? That would confirm your first point (or disprove it).

Best regards

That’s the thing. They don’t show up in the activity. They do show with numbers in the property history for Marketing emails delivered, Marketing emails opened, Sends since last engagement, Number of sales activities, etc. They have old dates for first and last send dates, first marketing email reply date, etc.

But contracts were just created.

@nbrown are you sure that these contacts were not previously deleted and did not, before their deletion, have engagements with these marketing emails? Do these dates in the properties correspond with send dates of old marketing emails?
