Need button click to perform 2 actions at once

We have alot resources available for people to download from our website. Everyone is gated by a form submission that redirects to thank you landing page where they click to download the resource file which opens in a separate tab.

We would like to make the thank you landing page a better converting asset. Is there a way to have the button they click to download the file turn into a new message like “You’ve successfully downloaded the resource. Your next step is to schedule a call with us…” when it gets clicked. Or have the button click trigger a cta popup. I know I can either have the button download the file or have it trigger a cta pop up, but not both.

Any ideas for solutions?

On the thank you page with the download button, why not display the message directly below that button?

Personally, I’d expect the file download and nothing more. Anything in addition to that would break with my expectations and not in a good way if the page is trying to get another message in. What you’re trying to might cause more frustration and harm conversion rates.
