Navigating the Transition: Migrating from Legacy Scoring to HubSpot's New Lead & Health Scoring Apps

Important Changes Coming to HubSpot Scoring

Are you currently using HubSpot’s legacy scoring tool? If so, you’ll need to take action soon. HubSpot is sunsetting the old scoring system, with three critical deadlines approaching:

  • May 1, 2025: Starting this date, you will no longer be able to create new score properties using the old scoring tool.
  • July 1, 2025: Starting this date, you will no longer be able to edit existing score properties using the old scoring tool.
  • August 31, 2025: This is when the old score properties will stop updating completely and will be sunset

This transition is necessary as HubSpot moves toward more powerful and flexible scoring capabilities. The new Lead Scoring and Health Scoring apps offer enhanced functionality that better aligns with how modern businesses qualify prospects and nurture customer relationships.

Compared to the old scoring tool, the new Lead Scoring app (available for Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise accounts) now supports:

  • Scoring Objects: Contacts and Companies
  • Fit and Engagement Scores
  • Threshold Property
  • Advanced Functionality
    • Advanced Association
    • Custom Event Scoring
    • Decay, Recency, Frequency (launching soon)
    • Incremental Scoring
    • Score History and Distribution
    • List Exclusion
    • Reset Scores to Zero

Lead Scoring (Marketing Hub Enterprise accounts only) now supports:

  • Combined Scores
  • Combined Threshold Properties
  • AI Scores

Health Scoring app (Service Hub Professional and Enterprise accounts) now supports:

  • Scoring Object: Object used to represent customers in the CS Workspace
  • Combined Score (Fit and Engagement)
  • Custom Events: Usage Data can be included (Amplitude, Pendo, Segment)
  • No AI Scores
  • Advanced Functionality (same as above for Lead Scoring)
  • Threshold Property (same as above for Lead Scoring)

However the migration process isn’t automatic – you’ll need to recreate your existing scoring models in the new system. While this might initially seem like an inconvenience, it’s actually an opportunity to refine your scoring approach using the new tools’ advanced features.

What to Expect in Our Demo

Our comprehensive demo will walk you through:

  1. Understanding the fundamental differences between the old and new scoring
  2. Step-by-step migration instructions for recreating your existing scores
  3. Solutions for common pain points during migration
  4. Testing and validation strategies to ensure your new scoring models work as intended
  5. Best practices for aligning your new scoring approach with your sales processes

Don’t wait until the last minute to make this crucial transition. The sooner you migrate, the more time you’ll have to optimize your new scoring models and ensure they’re working effectively before the old system stops updating.

Thanks! This was exactly what I needed. However, you didn’t cover the score limits and group score limits.

@mrspabs Glad to hear this was helpful!
Here are some resources that cover limits:
Lead Scoring Group and Score limits
Setting up limits for Engagement Scores (Lead)
Setting up limits for Fit Scores (Lead)
Setting up limits for Combined Scores (Lead)
The set up is similar for Health Scores!

@ajacks228 Thanks for the thorough information.

@ajacks228 what would happen to deal scoring?

The contact and company scoring will move over to the Lead scoring tool, but how would we be able to score deals? Is there a new tool on the roadmap for Deal Scoring? or even scoring for tickets or other custom objects?

Hi, @ajacks228
I’m posting on behalf of a customer, as per this post.

According to @AndresBustos I understand that the “Frequency” option should be released at the end of April, I checked personal my portal, as well as the customer’s, and I do not see such option in the current settings, my customer is struggling to transition from the old scoring version to the new one, mainly due to this,
The are trying to replicate this rule on the new lead scoring system: has at least one Page View of a URL that contains theirdomainname.com at most 10 times.

Is there a release date for this?
Thanks in advance!

@Joa_Graterol this is becoming slowly available to all accounts. 10% have access now and 100% will have it by end of next week. Happy to speed up your customers turn if you send me a message with their Portal ID. thank you!

@Aditya_Bansal9 Great question! Deal scoring on the new apps is our roadmap
For now, deal scores already created using the legacy app can still be used for a limited time: can be edited through June 30th and will still update through August 31.
Other objects scoring is being evaluated and currently you can score associated tickets to Contact and Company objects.

@MelodyCooke Thank you for those insights. Good to know that there is something on the roadmap for deal scoring. It would be ideal to have that capability for other objects as well.

I agree that tickets can be scored on associated contacts and company records, but then it counts towards the contact/company scoring.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add member of active list into scoring categories. This is going to completely DESTROY scoring for multiple clients if we can’t reference active lists.

@ajacks228 when you build a workflow for those “and/or” situations, what actions does the workflow have to have? I understand I need to set up the triggers but then do I put a delay? Or can they just go straight into the end?
Also, since the leadscoring tool says “enrolled in workflow” and not “completed workflow” - does that mean that contacts would only get the score if they are CURRENTLY active in that workflow or even after they’ve completed the workflow?

@SXperts Around minute 11:05 in the video, it shows how to include list membership for referencing active lists. Let us know if you are referring to something different!

@SaraSzabo Great questions!
1. when you build a workflow for those “and/or” situations, what actions does the workflow have to have?

  1. You will want to use “Automatically trigger enrollment when filter criteria is met” and add filter criteria. No additional action after that is needed.

2. I understand I need to set up the triggers but then do I put a delay? Or can they just go straight into the end?

  1. No delay needed and they can go straight to the end.

3. Also, since the leadscoring tool says “enrolled in workflow” and not “completed workflow” - does that mean that contacts would only get the score if they are CURRENTLY active in that workflow or even after they’ve completed the workflow?

  1. The contact will get scored as long as they get enrolled. Also they do not need to be currently enrolled, historical enrollments will count. Another way to think about is it “every time this record has enrolled in the workflow, give it x points”

Hope this helps!

@MelodyCooke thanks for your previous reply!

Another Q: I’m a bit unclear on the scoring limits. I understand that the maximum score a contact can reach is 100 no matter how many more points they’d get after reaching 100. Does this mean it’s better to give scores in smaller increments (e.g. 5 for a pricing page view instead of 10) if we will assign scores for many types of engagement so that we’ll definitely know the low, mid and high scorers? If it’s easy for someone to reach 100 because e.g. we’ve assigned 40 for someone who viewed 5+ website pages, then contacts could reach 100 or the higher end easier, without really doing that much - it just seems like they did because their scores were “inflated”… Please let me know if I’m on the correct lines here…

As for the group score limits - do we have to assign a group score limit for each group or if we leave a group score limit at 0, will the individual fit/engagement scores not be added to contacts?

Hey @MelodyCooke I wanted to ask something similar to what SaraSzabo mentioned around the scoring limits. Is there a plan to have “custom” limits, or scoring without a max-limit?
One of our use-cases is just giving 1 point to a contact when they have attended a live webinar or watched it on demand. And it is a yearly score, so we have 2023, 2024, 2025 etc. We will never have 100 webinars to reach the max score in a year, but also we don’t know how many we will have.
So while I can see us using the “Fit score” for this, it is a bit too much for the use-case.

The tool overall is much better though so great job.

Thank you! This is amazing. I’m actually using a property “activity score” that will be soon deprecated so I started to use the new lead scoring tool. However this property is also use in some workflows to triggered the passage from a lifecycle stage to another. How can I substitute that property in the workflow with the new lead scoring?
Thanks

Hi! what will happen if you do not migrate and sunsetting happends in August 25?

@SaraSzabo
Thanks for your patience on my reply! We just added another video explaining limits above and if you go to minute 5:26, it answers your questions :slightly_smiling_face:

@GIlievski No plans to change the total score limits but appreciate the feedback!
For giving a contact just 1 point if they attended / watched a webinar and no more than that, you could use the “limit to” feature. If you go to minute 5:26 of the new video added above on limits, it talks about “limit to”.

@RPovolo Happy to hear this was helpful! You can substitute that other property by changing the enrollment criteria of your workflow to reference the new lead score that you build (similar to building a list). For the trigger you will want to select “when filter criteria is met”, select the type of object you scored (i.e. contacts or companies) and select that property (i.e. contact properties), and then select the new lead score you created.
