Mislabled more than 1,000 contacts as marketing contacts

We accidentally labeled more than 1,000 non-marketing contacts as marketing contacts. Is there a way to revert these changes so that I don’t accidentally send them a marketing email? As I understand it the changes to their status won’t take effect until the 1st of the new month (Nov. 1) and it is holding us up from sending marketing emails.

Hi @KHassen3,

Unfortunately, changes to the marketing contact status cannot be reversed. However, it seems like there may be a misunderstanding around what the marketing contact status means. Understand marketing contacts

Marketing contact status is a billing feature, not a consent management feature. While I have seen companies use it for consent management, it shouldn’t be used that way. (That’s what subscription types are for.) Unless you put these contacts on a recipient list (or unless you have set up workflows that send emails based on marketing contact status), they will not receive an email. There is no default automation behind the marketing contact status.

Should you have workflows or recipient lists that are based on marketing contact status, I’d recommend you change these assets as soon as you can. Again, marketing contact status is a feature that will prevent contacts from receiving communication if you’re not paying for them. It should never be used as an inclusion filter for communication. That would be redundant and, as described above, risky. Other features like subscription types are much better suited to handle this. Manage your contacts' messaging subscriptions

That’s correct, if you mark these contacts as non-marketing now, that change will only take effect with the new month. On Nov 1st, they’ll turn back into non-marketing contacts.

However, this should only hold you back from sending marketing emails if you’ve already hit your marketing contacts limit and were planning on using these 1,000 “credits” for other contacts. If that’s the case, you’ll unfortunately either have to sit this out or consider upgrading for a month. You can find the pricing for an upgrade here by doing a site search for “marketing contact”: https://legal.hubspot.com/hubspot-product-and-services-catalog

Hope this helps!
