Merging (deal) owners

Hello Hubspot Community,

I hope you can help me here. I have an issue with the deal owner.

See, an user in Salesforce got a new Salesforce account because they changed their position in the sales team and we wanted to keep the opportunities etc. in their old team. Think of it as a new start.

We didn’t think of Hubspot also creating a new user/owner. Now we have the problem, that we have two separate owners in Hubspot for one person. One of them is the Hubspot user/owner, I can also find when I look for users in Hubspot. The other one has “Salesforce” added to their name. I guess that’s showing, that it is a Salesforce user, but not a Hubspot user.

So, I have one person that’s shown as two in Hubspot. I have no idea how to merge the owner (if that’s even possible) or what to do, so I only have one owner and not two. I always get the error, that the deal owner (which is the one with the Salesforce addition) has to be activated in Salesforce, although the user is active.

Any idea what to do?

I was thinking of switching the old deal owner to the owner with the Salesforce addition, but that won’t really fix my problem as that one isn’t a real Hubspot user. I also have to use the one with the Salesforce addition in the name since every new deal has that owner.

Why would you give a new Salesforce user account to an existing user just to change their role? If you just changed the existing user in Salesforce with the new permission set/roles/etc. then you can delete this excess user and resolve the duplication right away. I don’t think there is a way to merge the two accounts together since the (Salesforce) one does not live in Hubspot and exists purely to help the systems sync.

If you cannot do that you could try opening a support ticket with Hubspot to see if there is something they can do on the backend that we are unable to help with.

Or you could make a workflow to re-assign the deals to the new owner, then delete the old hubspot account and try to make a new one hoping that they merge again at this point.

Thank you for your response!

It was necessary back then, wasn’t about just changing the profile/role in Salesforce.

I’ll try your suggestions. Thanks!
