- It would be great if we could look into having scoring work for multiple opens of an email, rather than opens for distinct emails.
Agree with everything here. Hubspot shouldn’t even be calling this lead scoring. It’s a joke.
This thread seems to have been active for years with no visible improvements from Hubspot.
We are severly limited by the Hubspot scoring model. We use the “plaster over the crack” decay workaround removing scores for certain actions after time has passed, but its severely flawed as difficult to make it account for other actions.
The core of the issue lies in the either increase or decrease only settings, making the model very inflexible when it comes to applying decay or re-nurturing previously qualified leads. We need the ability to set scoring actions that set the score to a user defined value, regardless of existing score.
For instance, if a lead is qualified from reaching a certain score, but we don’t successfully book a meeting, and their status is set back to nurture, I want the ability to set the score back to a specific value to begin nurturing again. Simply taking some points away doesn’t account for the total score they had reached already.
Seriously HubSpot… this should be standard to a CRM. Repeating actions makes perfect sense, and is a way more accurate way of measuring engagement. This has been an issue since 2017 - that’s 7 years of waiting. I’m only commenting to keep this thread relevant because everything mentioned here should really be included. This will become an issue for my company and we will have to scout for new CRMs if this major limitation is not addressed…
7 years later and still with this issue lol this is just crazy
Hi Folks,
Hopefully, by now, you’ve seen a demo or video (like this), or the Inbound announcement of our new Lead Scoring tool. Lots of what’s mentioned above has now been enabled.
For example, with the new tool you get access to:
- Fit Scoring
- Engagement Scoring
- Ability to say ‘any email click +1’ (or other marketing asset)
- Ability to specify which specific email (or other marketing asset)
- Ability to set up thresholds based on the score (if 0-25 = low if 25-100 = hot)
- Ability to set up a record card to see historically why a contact has their score
- Ability to reset the score via worklfows
The 100 filter limit is also not applied in the new tool nor should you actually need to use that many filters with these new capabilities. We hope you like it

THANK YOU!!!
Hello! My name is Hallie, and I’m a Program Manager on the CXM Team. Improvements for scoring are now live, including:
- Better UX
- More transparent scoring details via record card
- Ability to decay scores
- Custom events are included natively
- Ability to do fit and engagement scores
You can read more details on how to set these up in our KB if needed. ![]()
In addition to getting the Lead Score functionality to the next level and make it more insightful I think the event details (when clicking ‘See score calculations’ > ‘Scoring history’) needs an update. Because it now shows a default (uncustomizable) name of an event (for example ‘Enrolled in workflow’) and we have a lot of triggered workflow events, this scoring history functionality is not adding value in any sort of way. Adding some kind of functionality to add a custom name to an event or even granularly to specific triggers of an event, would really help to make the scoring history add value.
