Limit of 5 Users on Free Account?

I am hoping someone can assist me, I’ve seen similar threads but have not been able to resolve. Whilst HubSpot advertise unlimited users on the free platform, I am unable to add more than 5. The Create new user button is locked and redirects me to the message:

“Upgrade to CRM Suite Starter - Upgrade to invite more users**”**

Their sales team that have been contacting me to upsell suggested I needed to upgrade, but when I pointed out their advertising, they effectively told me to fix it myself via the Help Centre or Community - fair enough I guess since I’m not paying (yet)? I’ve spent quite a bit of time setting up our organisation and pipeline and am quite disapointed as I would not have done so had I known.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

@thePM I also did a quick search and found this showing unlimited users:

I couldn’t find anything on the pricing page that says there is a limit, but I also couldn’t find any mention of unlimited users.

There is also no limit noted in the knowledge base article for adding users

I also know that the free account doesn’t have 1M contacts - unless they aren’t distinguishing between marketing and non-marketing contacts.

It seems like this information isn’t correct, at least not based on your experience. @PamCotton would you be able to help with this question?

Hi @thePM,

For a verly long time, the limit was in the thousands for all HubSpot subscription tiers.

However, HubSpot support recently confirmed to me that they’re is moving to a seats model which is currently being introduced in ANZ. According to this employee, free users seem to be relegated to view-only. What used to be free users in the past, with full editing access, will apparently be considered (billable) core seats.

If you’re in ANZ, you’re likely part of that roll-out. If you’re outside of ANZ, HubSpot might’ve expanded the regions this apply to.

I agree, it’s misleading that the marketing materials still refer to unlimited users. Unfortunately, you’re only option will indeed be to upgrade.

Best regards!

Thanks @karstenkoehler for taking the time to respond (and thanks also to @Jnix284 ).

It’s very dissapointing that HubSpot have taken to false and misleading advertising to entrap clients - not a good start to the relationship (and illegal in Australia). It was my intent to try out the platform and then consider scaling to add paid options, with only 5 users available I am unable to really put it through its paces even though I only require about 10 users (FYI - I can add just 5 users, all of which are Super Admins, but can not add any further, even read only). Very disspaointing as I’ve invested quite a bit of time to date setting it up.

Back to the drawing board I guess, and weigh up options.

Thanks once again - Fröhliche Weihnachten from Down Under

@thePM it might be worth reconnecting with the sales rep who is trying to upsell you so you can get clarity around the seats and why you’re not able to add read-only seats as @karstenkoehler mentioned was possible as part of the trial in ANZ.

IMHO I don’t think HubSpot’s marketing team intends to mislead anyone. The program is very new and in a trial phase, which is why there is a misalignment between the ad and the capabilities - I don’t think it was malicious, someone just made a mistake that needs to be fixed.

Hopefully you’ll still give HubSpot consideration, perhaps @Mike_Eastwood or @ianjacob can share more about the ANZ trial program and how they’re managing the changes.

Hi from New Zealand @thePM, @karstenkoehler and @Jnix284

The implementation of the “Seat based pricing” in ANZ has been - shall I say politely - suprisingly confusing.

@thePM if you need a test HubSpot Portal for more people I can arrange a trial for you.

You’re welcome @Mike_Eastwood, thanks so much for jumping in to help!

Having worked on a few websites with partners in ANZ previously, I ran into issues with needing paid seats for our web developers (my old agency wasn’t a partner). I’m a little anxious for how this new seat based structure will work out for certain use cases.
