# Last Activity Date

I am having an issue with “last activity date”.

I am seeing that for many contacts/companies the “last activity date” is not updating when an e-mail is sent through outlook.

For example, ABC Company has Jane Doe associated. When I email Jane, the “last activity date” is not updating for ABC company. It is also not showing in the e-mails tab.

- Yes contact is associated with company.
- Yes outlook 365 is showing as enabled.
- Yes log-email is selected.

Why is it not updating “last activity date” when an e-mail is sent or received?

Hello @LSchuh happy Friday!

I just wanted to confirm that our definition of “last activity date” is aligned. The definition from our [knowledge base](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/contacts/hubspots-default-contact-properties#:~:text=the%20last%20date,show%20yesterday%27s%20date.) is “the last date and time a note, call, _**[tracked sales email](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/connected-email/understand-hubspot-sales-email-open-and-click-tracking),**_ meeting, task, or chat was logged on the contact’s record. This is set automatically by HubSpot based on the most recent date/time set for an activity. For example, if a user logs a call and indicates that it occurred the day before, the _Last activity date_ property will show yesterday’s date.” That being said, would you be able to confirm that the email logged in the company record under “email” is in fact a tracked sales email? Thank you,

So, I understand correctly, just having the message setting set to ‘Logged’ is not enough to update “last activity date”. I must select “track email opens”?
