Hi all,
How can we avoid using marketing contacts in forms?
We have a wide variety of machines and locations where they are used. Occasionally, these machines break down, and we need them returned to the office for repairs. To improve our overview of what is coming in and going out, we’ve created a new form in HubSpot, accessible via a landing page.
After our worker fills out the form for a machine, they need to receive a receipt. I’ve set up HubSpot to send a receipt to the enrolled contact. However, HubSpot insists that this is a marketing email, treating our workers as marketing contacts, which are limited.
How can we avoid using marketing contacts for this purpose?
Best regards,
Thomas
Hi @Thomas_Oreskov,
The only way (within HubSpot) to work around that is a Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise subscription with the transactional email add-on: How to Use Transactional Emails to Send Relationship-Based Emails in HubSpot
Transactional emails can be sent to non marketing contacts.
Without this add-on, each recipient of an email created in the marketing email editor must be a marketing contact - regardless of whether the content in the email is marketing.
In that regard, it’s better to think of marketing contact status as a billable status for receiving automated emails.
(Don’t shoot the messenger.)
Best regards

Thank you for your reply
Questions:
A) Does the same rule apply if we use a non-HubSpot form? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, but I just want to confirm.
B) We currently have 900 marketing contacts. If we change some of our marketing contacts back to non-marketing contacts, will our marketing contact allowance increase? For example, if we have 900 marketing contacts left and we switch 50 contacts back to non-marketing, will the count go back up to 950?
@Thomas_Oreskov
A) Yes, the type of form does not matter here.
B) The limit is not affected by how many contacts are set to marketing or non-marketing. You can always change the status of a contact, yes. Setting a contact to marketing contact will reflect immediately. Setting a contact to non-marketing will reflect on the day of the next month. If you exceed your limit, you’re immediately upgraded for the current billing term: Understand marketing contacts billing
