It looks like Outlook.com keeps old Hubspot synced period data after deactivation

I have disconnected the app in outlook to track emails in hubspot, but I am suspect that Microsoft on web at Outlook.com keeps some vault for the tracking period which is not nice in terms of data privacy.

I noticed this from outlook.com private email on web browser, then navigating to People on outlook.com and to “All contacts”. I have no contacts on outlook, but the “All contacts” show the email addresses from the sync period with Hubspot. Not possible to delete email addresses from “All contacts” on outlook.com.

Does Hubspot or Microsot have a tool to remove this Ghost data from Outlook.com ?

Maybe I am wrong, but I got a feeling that Hubspot does not clean up on Outlook after removal of sync tool.

Hi @flemmingv,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community!

If you’re using the data sync with Outlook and then decide to disable it, the integration will stop sending new information between apps, but it won’t automatically remove the data that had already been synchronised.

Have you already tried deleting the contacts by following these instructions?

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Mia

Got it! Did a bit of research and it seems this is an issue other Microsoft users face as well, as described in this Microsoft Community post. The author suggested deleting the contacts in Outlook (installed version) as a workaround.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mia,

Updated message:

Thanks, checked it again, it works! Your answer was great. It works to delete old contacts in Offline Outlook, but very manual, you have to go to the contacts, then search for “All Outlook items” and search for something specific contained in email addresses such as “.com”, which you want to delete, and then it searches, maybe with “no results”, but then you simply click “Find more on server”, and you get all the contacts, which can then be deleted.

Hi @flemmingv,

I apologize for the late reply, but I’m glad that worked.

Thank you for taking the time and updating this thread with the steps to solve this, data privacy is important!

Cheers,

Mia
