Issues with Contact Ownership

Hi all :waving_hand:

I’m a Product Manager here at HubSpot working in the account configuration, user management, & permissions space. I’ve heard a lot of different people give feedback on how we handle Contact Ownership and the problems it presents to them. Whether that is permissions, meeting bookings, or other behaviors.

I’m looking to consolidate a thread here to gather these issues/struggles from HubSpot users and also point people toward possible workarounds.

Cheers,

Jake

One area that often comes up is Permissions with contact ownership. Wanted to point people toward the fact that you can create an additional property where the Field Type is “HubSpot User”. This will allow you to create multiple users who can be assigned to this contact and permission will respect that. https://community.hubspot.com/t5/CRM/Multiple-owners-of-a-contact/m-p/628238/highlight/true#M133561

Hey Jake, thanks for opening up discussion on this issue!

One thing I’ve run into that I don’t have a solution for yet is contact ownership specifically where it relates to who gets the meeting booking. My client has two business units with different staff associated to each business unit, and contacts in our context may belong to one BU, the other BU, or both BUs (therefore one contact may have one or two contact owners if they’re being cross-sold under each BU). Meeting links do currently allow you to specify a BU association, but when you prioritize the contact’s owner for scheduling in a round robin meeting type, it’s going to schedule with the singular default contact owner, with no way to differentiate based on BU. Creating an additional property where the Field Type is “HubSpot User” won’t work here, because there’s no way to tell the meeting to use that new property.

(I have recently submitted this as an Idea here.)

Are there any updates on the above? I’m running in exactly the same issue as @SarahMayo-CSC and there seems to be no solution in over a year? This makes using BUs very difficult.
