Issue with secondary domain DNS update

Hi there,

We have a website hosted on Hubspot - and that site is the primary domain on our account. We have a couple secondary domains, and today tried to add another. When the DNS record updates propagated, the secondary domain added was now pointing to the primary domain - an unexpected and unwanted result.

Fortunately we were able to disconnect the domain and roll back the DNS updates. Any idea why this occurred?

Thanks for any insight.

Hi @BKruljac ,
While I can’t provide real-time troubleshooting, I can provide some potential explanation for this occurrence.
One common reason for domain redirection issues is misconfigured DNS records. If the DNS records for the secondary domain were not set up correctly, they might have inadvertently pointed to your primary domain.
If your primary domain was set up to forward or redirect to your secondary domain might have triggered unexpected forwarding behaviour. Review the domain forwarding settings in your HubSpot account.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. I’d be happy to help.

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm the DNS set-up wasn’t the issue - if the A-record provided by Hubspot was indeed correct. It didn’t match the info for our primary domain, and was reviewed and confirmed by our InfoSec team before it they implemented. We also don’t have any domain forwarding currently set up.

Ours is quite an old Hubspot set-up going back 10+ years, and I’m wondering if there is some legacy setting or configuration we can no longer see that may be the root cause.

Appreciate you taking a look.
