Hi,
I’m facing an issue while integrating HubSpot with some of its modules, specifically “Create a Note” and **“Watch Deal.”
**
When I try to connect these modules to my HubSpot account, I receive an error during the integration process.
Could you please look into this issue and let me know what might be causing it and how I can resolve it?
Error is:
'Couldn’t complete the connection
Authorization failed because this app hasn’t been approved to access the required scopes [crm.objects.contacts.read] in your account. Please reach out to your account super admin to add the app’s permissions in your account’s app governance settings.’
I’d appreciate your guidance on the required configuration or steps to successfully integrate these modules with my HubSpot account.
Thanks!
Hey @Maria_Frontleft,
Thanks for posting in the Community!
I’m tagging in a few Community experts here to see what insight they might have for us. @Anton, @alyssamwilie, and @EValdes - do any of you have any suggestion(s) for @Maria_Frontleft ?

That message is HubSpot app governance blocking Make’s scopes, not a broken Make module.
What usually clears it:
- Sign in as a HubSpot Super Admin (not just a normal user).
- Open Settings → Integrations → Connected Apps (or App governance / app permissions, depending on your portal UI) and find the Make / Integromat app.
- Approve the app and grant the scopes it is asking for. Your error names
crm.objects.contacts.read; Create a Note / Watch Deal will typically need contact (and often deal) read/write as well. Approve what Make lists, not only one checkbox.
- Back in Make, reconnect the HubSpot connection (re-authorize OAuth), then retest Create a Note on a test contact and Watch Deal on a test deal.
- If the app never appears under governance, confirm you are in the same HubSpot portal Make is trying to connect, and that another Super Admin did not previously deny it.
Did this start after a recent permission change, or is it a first-time Make connect on this portal?

This looks more like HubSpot app governance than a Make connection issue.
The useful part of the error as you said is crm.objects.contacts.read. HubSpot is saying the Make app is requesting that scope, but the app hasn’t been approved for it in this account.
I’d ask a Super Admin to check Connected Apps or app governance under Settings > Integrations, approve the requested permissions, then reconnect Make.
One thing that can be confusing is that even if you’re using a Deal or Note module, the Make app itself may request contact scopes as part of the connection. So I wouldn’t remove that scope just because the specific scenario isn’t working with contacts
