Is there a way to reverse HubSpot's decision to sunset the deal score property type?

Dear HubSpot, dear community,

I am a little lost on who to reach out to. The deal score is a massively heplful tool, for example for enabling complex re-enrollment rules for deals that otherwise aren’t available:

The rule “deal is associated to a note and note has all of attached file IDs is knowncannot be used as a deal workflow re-enrollment trigger.

But using the same filter rules, a deal score can be increased by one and this deal score change can be used as a re-enrollment trigger. This is extremely valuable for integrations and/or automations.

Now, HubSpot seems to be sunsetting “score” properties and packaging scores under “Lead Scoring”. And for now at least, lead scores are only available for contacts and companies, of course.

Please HubSpot, reverse your decision to sunset deal scores!

Hey, @AKettula. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns regarding the sunsetting of the deal score property.

I can understand how valuable the deal score functionality is for your use case, especially when it comes to complex re-enrollment rules and automation.

At this time, HubSpot has made the decision to phase out deal scores in favor of packaging scoring features under the “Lead Scoring” framework, which currently applies to contacts and companies. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to reverse this decision directly, as it is part of HubSpot’s evolving platform strategy.

You can create custom properties to simulate the behavior of deal scores. For example, instead of using a score property, you could create a custom “Deal Stage Progress” or “Deal Priority” property. Then, use workflows to update this property based on specific criteria, such as associated notes or other deal activities. You can then trigger re-enrollment based on changes to these custom properties.

However, I would highly recommend that you to please post this idea at our ideas forum (here).

Kindly,

Pam

Dear @PamCotton, so kind of you to give a thoughtful reply, thank you.

The problem with automations is indeed that workflows don’t enable associated information as re-enrollment triggers. So when a"deal is associated to a note" triggers once, the deal has already enrolled. I.e. the same deal won’t re-enroll based on that criteria.

So setting up custom properties that a workflow updates when a note is added to a deal, these properties will be updated once --> when the workflow triggers for the first time.

Here, the deal score currently increases whenever a new note is attached to a deal. This deal score does function as a re-enrollment trigger.

Calculated properties can also only calculate based on the same object’s property value (changes), not based on activities such as notes.

So losing the “Score” as deal properties are a big loss, as of now.

Will the new lead scoring tool be applied to deals eventually? Is Hubspot planning to include deals at any moment? I agree with @AKettula that implementing lead scores without room for deals is a massive oversight and drawback.

There can be some workarounds, like a building a workflow or a calculated property to create a score, but certainly it does have a lot of limitations, like the re-enrollment issue mentioned above.

Is Hubspot preparing any migration guides for deal scoring even? I have not seen any content related to this and I don’t think we are the only two users using the scoring feature this way.

Hi @AKettula,

Good news, there is a public beta for deal scores under Settings > Product updates > All > Manually Score Deals and Companies with Sales Hub:

Manually Score Deals and Companies with Sales Hub

What is it?

You can now manually score deals and companies using the Lead Scoring app with Sales Hub Professional or Enterprise.

Why does it matter?

Effective scoring provides accurate, actionable insights that empower sales reps to identify which deals to prioritize and which companies to prospect first. With manual scoring, you and your sales team can customize the scoring rules that are most impactful for your business, ensuring efforts are always focused on accelerating deal closure.

With the Lead Scoring app now in both Marketing Hub and Sales Hub, your marketing and sales teams can seamlessly collaborate and maintain consistent criteria for evaluating contacts, companies, and deals in a unified and single scoring solution. Sales teams are also able to migrate their manual deal scores from the legacy scoring property, that is sunsetting on August 31, 2025.

How does it work?

1. In the Global Navigation Bar on the left, navigate to Marketing > Lead Scoring. Once in the Lead Scoring app, click “Create score”.

2. Select “Deals” and click “Create”.

3. Start building your score by clicking “+ Add event group” or “+ Add property group”.

Within an event group, you can add event criteria such as Ads, Calls, Forms, etc.

Within a property group, you can add objects such as Deal, Associated contact, Associated company, etc.

4. Click on the “Deals” tab to choose which deals to include or exclude in scoring.

5. Click on the “Settings” tab to edit the property label and customize the score thresholds.

6. You can also edit the name of the score and then click “Review and turn on”. After reviewing your score, click “Turn on”.

7. After turning your score on, you will receive the following confirmation with next steps.

Note: You can also score companies with a combined score similar to deals, or with the fit and engagement criteria as separate scores.

Who gets it?

Customers with Professional Customer Platform, Enterprise Customer Platform, Sales Professional, and Sales Enterprise.

Best regards!
