We only run tasks for Deals and some tasks are being automatically created in the Contact record. Is there a way to stop this from occuring?

Could you share more details how you are creating tasks or how they are being created? If you don’t know, could you share a screenshot?
If you’re using workflows to create tasks, I’d recommend checking out the settings of this step. In this screenshot from a deal-based workflow, you can select which other records to associate this task with:
