Is it a good idea to restructure a sales pipeline when we already have 15k leads?

Hi!

We’re thinking of totally redefining our sales pipeline which implies creating new deal stages and moving leads from their existing stages to the new ones.

I already know how to do it but I’m afraid i will lose the timestamp of the old stages when i do this. As we have already the equivalent to 2 years of data in the CRM, this could mean losing valuable data.

Has anyone faced such problem and/ or knows if HubSpot keeps the timestamp of the old stage?

Thanks!

Hi @Importrust,

If you remove a deal stage, the entered stage date information for that stage will be gone and not accessible anymore. It’s also not possible to export this information and re-import the entered stage date data, these fields are read-only.

In other words, you should only make this change if you’re confident that you do not need this information anymore.

One option would be to not delete these stages but move them to the end of the pipeline and mark them as ‘Do not use’. That way you could slowly phase them out and would not lose the historic information of those stages.

In any case, if you want to still access the historic information of at some point to be removed stages, you would have to create two versions of reports. One that includes those deprecated stages, one without.

Of course I don’t have all of the context of your change but personally, I’d lean towards making sure that the new redefined pipeline structure is solid and rip the bandaid off. You might have collected a lot of data for to be deprecated stages but they’re being deprecated for a reason, right?

Best regards!
