I am confused about how IP address works in Hubspot. I can see in the prospect history in Hubspot that a country was added with the form submission but then in the history it looks like it is being overwritten by something called “IP address location Property changed by HubSpot’s IP address location service.”
And when the prospect syncs with my connected Salesforce account there is no address and none of my lead assignment rules fire (they are based on Country).
Can someone explain to me why the address they enter is being changed and how I can turn this off?
Hi @NWolf0 HubSpot has different “country” properties. The regular “country” field should be used in forms as this is a manual input and not automatically updated by HubSpot. There is however an automatically populated field for “IP country”. This will be automatically populated based on the IP location of the contact who submit a form.
Are you using the contact group property for “country/region” in your form? This should not be overwritten automatically, are you sure this is the field you’re looking at within HubSpot?
If this is overwriting within salesforce also, you should check your Salesforce field mappings to ensure the country field in salesforce isn’t mapped to the IP country property in HubSpot.
If you’re still seeing issues here, could you send me a screenshot of your of your contacts and the exact property you’re seeing be overwritten please?
Thank you for your quick response. I looked at my mappings and the Country/Region field in Hubspot is mapped to our Contact Mailing Country field in Salesforce.
However, it looks like some of our our forms use a field called Lead/Contact Country. That is not mapped to anything in Salesforce.
We do it this way so we can control the values they can select from. The Country/Region field is a text field to allow it to sync with Salesforce text fields.
I may test if updating the field on the forms will fix this.
