Hey All,

I am looking at setting up a Country code workflow where we automatically fill in Country/Region based off of their IP Country Code or their IP Country.
I am struggling to understand the cleanest field to use. Do I either use IP Country, and try format it using code as on Formatting I can only capitalise the first letter so united kingdom would be United kingdom.
Or do I create a super long branch of IP Country Code’s and then use that to fill in the Country Region?

Hi @DCrinnionDC,

That depends on who’s working with these fields and how - if you’re just capitalizing the country names, one could argue that whoever is working with that information could look at IP country directly.

Could you explain in a bit more detail what your purpose / goal is?

Generally, I’m not a fan of free text country fields so I’d generally lean towards a custom code action that sets a dropdown country value based on other fields - unless that dropdown already has a known value. IP country might not be the strongest indicator for the location of a contact, considering that some users log into their work environment through a VPN.

Best regards

Hey Karsten,
Ideally we are looking at using the Country/Region field for Lead Routing purposes. As this is the field that Hubspot Enrichment and our other Enrichment tools feed in to that is the key area we want to use.
In terms of the VPN I understand its an issue, however this is only for the percentage of contacts that haven’t or can’t be enriched already.

@DCrinnionDC is country field dropdown or free text?

So the one we were using a Hubspot made ‘Country/Region’ field

@DCrinnionDC the type of this field can be changed as long as it’s not in use, but in your case it’s free text. So yes, capitalizing and copying the value would to the trick. Keep in mind that there could be edge cases (e.g. “United States Of America” vs “United States of America”) which are then treated by HubSpot as separate values.

Thank you for this. In terms of Capitalising in a workflow. Do you recommend its best just to use the format function and capitalise only the first letter or do you recommend use the code function and using timecase to capitalise every letter?
