# Internal Error \[Bug\] on Adding Contact to Contact List

Hi there,  
For the past few days some users have been complaining of being unable to sync their contacts from our platform to HubSpot.  
Upon checking, we can see we’re receiving 500 headers and “Internal Error” on calls that used to work correctly.  
Example error:

Our calls are :  
**1. Create the Contact**

POST

[https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts](https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts)

{‘properties’ =\> {‘email’ =\> “[test@test.com](mailto:test@test.com)”}}  
Retrieve the returned ID, e.g. 1234 =\>

**This is successful**

**2. Add the Contact to a Contact List**

POST

[https://api.hubapi.com/contacts/v1/lists/LIST\_ID/add](https://api.hubapi.com/contacts/v1/lists/LIST%5C_ID/add)

{‘vids’ =\> [1234]}

**This returns 500 and the error above.**

Please note:

- The List ID is correct, double checked with  
GET

[https://api.hubapi.com/contacts/v1/lists/LIST\_ID](https://api.hubapi.com/contacts/v1/lists/LIST_ID%60)  
- The VID (User ID) is correct, checked with the Contact API  
- The Access Token is correct and has permissions for Contact and Contact List, I can share it in private for debugging. It was verified via [https://api.hubapi.com/oauth/v1/access-tokens/TOKEN\_ID](https://api.hubapi.com/oauth/v1/access-tokens/TOKEN%5C_ID), which returned “scopes”:[“oauth”,“crm.lists.read”,“crm.objects.contacts.write”,“crm.lists.write”]

Hey @lnkbio,

Is the list an active (dynamic) or a static list? If it’s an active (dynamic) list I would expect to be getting back the response that you are seeing. The API doesn’t support adding contacts to static lists.

For instance when I attempt to add to a static list I get the below 200 response:

When I attempt to add to a active (dynamic) list I get the below 500 response:
