I’m wondering if anyone else is having major reporting issues for email open rates.
For the past 6 weeks, all of our marketing emails are showing 90–100% open rates, including long-standing member lists that historically averaged 30–40%.
Some specifics:
- Open rates jumped to 90% - 100% almost instantly (within one minute of sending).
- This is happening across all lists, including trusted member segments we’ve been emailing for years.
- Every “open” is being attributed to IPs in the United States, but our contacts are overwhelmingly based in Australia.
The timing coincides with when I uploaded a list of contacts (majority of these were already in our CRM), though the issue clearly extends beyond that list.
From what I can tell, this looks like bot or security filter activity (e.g., pre-fetching links, image scanning) being counted as opens, which is inflating our reporting and making open rate data unusable.
I’ve reached out to Hubspot directly but they can’t seem to find a answer or a solution for this.
Is anyone having similar issues and have you found a way to view more accurate engagement (e.g., filtering suspected bot activity).
At the moment, our open rate data is completely unreliable,
