Import excel sheets containing contacts into hubspot

Humans of HubSpot,

I’m trying to import excel sheets containing contacts into hubspot. I’ve created 9 Sheets with each 30 contacts. The collumns are named EXACTLY as the contact properties set in HS. When Uploading and mapping the different collums, Hubspot links the data to the correct collums and I upload them and save them as a list. When I then however go to check the list, some of the data was changed or left out. For example sometimes the engagement rates won’t be in there or the Lead Status changes from OPEN (which is how it was listed upon uploading) to INTERESTED without me actively doing anything. Or sometimes the Instagram reach or any of the other set properties will be changed or deleted by Hubspot. I’ve contacted customer support about this and they were able to tell me that I’m right and that Hubspot is changing th eData bu they could not tell me why or how to fix this. I’ve been trying to fix thsi for more than three hours now and am desperate at this point. PLEASE help!!!

Hello @CLerchenfeld , did you receive any errors while importing the contacts? When checking for the property update, could you please check “details” of the property to see the history of the property update, example below:

The more information, screenshots, and details you can provide, the better I can advise on the next steps.

Thank you,

Pam

Hi Pam, Thank you for the answer! I actually did get error notification however only a couple of minutes after uploading. I’ve sent you a message with screenshots attached to maybe vusiualize the issue further

Hi @CLerchenfeld,

You can find instructions on troubleshooting imports, including the descriptions of the error messages here: Review and troubleshoot record import errors

Which errors exactly is HubSpot returning?

Best regards

Hi Karsten,

the issue is that there isn’t anything else I can do on my end. As said before, hiúbspot will detect the data and linkit to the respective collumns while I’m mapping each collumn. So in the beginning everything looks correct. But then after I’ve uploaded them and I go to check the individual contacts the data is faulty.

I’ve checked the usual FAQ’s and talked to customer service, and they even confirmed that thsi is an issue oh Hubspots end but weren’t able to further help me because I’m a free user

Hi @CLerchenfeld,

In your earlier post, you said that you had received error messages after the import. The first step would be to review those and clarify if you haven’t done so yet.

Additionally, you can check the history of a the properties that you mapped to your import file columns, as explained by @PamCotton and as detailed here: View a record's property history

If this property history has a timestamp matching the time of the import and an incorrect value, then this seems to be a bug. If the property has an incorrect value but there isn’t a timestamp that can be associated with the import, then this issue is not caused by the import.

Happy to dig into this if you can share more details, for example in screenshots, pixelating names/emails of contacts.

Best regards
