I have a workflow set up for a welcome series. The first email invites the user to manage their preferences in order to customize their learning experience.
I want to have a branch that says “IF preferences link was clicked THEN send next email in series; IF NOT, send reminder email to manage preferences.”
How can I do this?

You would create a branch “Branch based on filter criteria” for this. After selecting this branch type, HubSpot should show specific filter types. The list starts with “Contact properties” and somewhere below you’ll see “Marketing emails”. Click it, select your email and then specify the link click.
When you save the branch, HubSpot will automatically create a “None met” branch. You can now place the next email under each branch.
Make sure to add a delay before the branch. Otherwise HubSpot will check it immediately after the email send and then push all contacts down the “None met” path.
Alternatively, if you don’t want contacts who click the link to wait, you can also set up a delay action, specifically an “Event occurence” delay. You can specify a link click in a marketing email here as well. Make sure to keep this option on for contacts who don’t click:

Strangely, the manage preferences link is not showing up as an option. All other links are available for selection. Any insight here?

If it doesn’t show up, you’d have to filter for the opt-in status of the individual subscriptions instead, under “Email subscriptions”.
Got it. The one challenge there is if they don’t make any changes to their subscriptions, they would receive a follow up even if they explored other subscription opportunities. I think my best solution will be to filter for general email clicks and if there are no clicks then I will send the reminder to manage preferences.

Instead of sending them to the preferences page, have you considered creating a landing page with a form and checkboxes for each subscription? This would be unambiguous.
