We are using the HubSpot provided “Connect HubSpot and NetSuite” solution. We recently turned on the feature to create a Company for each unique new contact so these records would sync to NetSuite. The problem is that these Companies are coming into NetSuite at the wrong status (Customer-Won), whereas we’d like them to come down as (Lead-Unqualified).
To change the default status of new companies created in NetSuite via the HubSpot integration, you will need to adjust the settings in NetSuite. Here’s how:
Log in to your NetSuite account and go to Setup > Sales > Sales Preferences.
Scroll down to the “Default Customer Type” section and select the “Leads” option.
Scroll down further to the “Default Sales Team” section and select the “Unassigned” option.
Click “Save” to save your changes.
With these settings in place, any new companies created in NetSuite via the HubSpot integration should default to the Lead-Unqualified status instead of the Customer-Won status.
Note that this will only affect new companies created in NetSuite going forward. Any existing companies will need to be manually updated to the Lead-Unqualified status if desired.
Thanks & Regards

I also have an additional question to you on the same line..Is there a way that we can sync the Status back to HubSpot so that we can incorporate it to drive the Lifecycle Stage within HubSpot as well?
Hello, we are having the same issue with HubSpot leads being assigned “customer-won” in NetSuite during the synching. They should come across as qualified-leads into NetSuite. Under NetSuite’s sales - sales preferences, there are no options for:
Scroll down to the “Default Customer Type” section and select the “Leads” option.
Scroll down further to the “Default Sales Team” section and select the “Unassigned” option.
Click “Save” to save your changes.
Below is my screen shot. How can we change the default?
I can see why this still comes up HubSpot’s native NetSuite connector has improved since 2023, but there are still limits that catch teams out. By default, HubSpot creates NetSuite companies as “Customer-Won,” which breaks reporting for anyone who needs them to enter as leads first.
NetSuite’s own preferences can override some defaults, but they don’t always match your exact sales process. The good news is HubSpot has since expanded the integration to support syncing NetSuite Status fields for both Contacts and Companies (Connect HubSpot and NetSuite)
You can now map lifecycle related values more directly, but the mapping options remain narrower than what many teams expect. HubSpot’s lifecycle stages (Use contact and company lifecycle stages)
And NetSuite statuses simply aren’t a 1:1 fit, so misalignment is still common.
That’s the bigger theme I see in 2025: native connectors are useful, but they’re rigid. If lifecycle alignment across CRM and ERP is mission-critical, most teams eventually add a sync layer that lets them fully control the mapping (status, lifecycle, custom fields) instead of working around defaults.
With a tool like Stacksync you get real-time two-way sync where HubSpot stages and NetSuite statuses stay in lockstep. That avoids the “Customer-Won by default” problem entirely and keeps reporting and workflows consistent on both sides.
Curious are you mainly tackling this for reporting accuracy, or do you also want HubSpot workflows to trigger off NetSuite status changes?
That will guide whether the native connector is “good enough” or if you’d benefit from a more flexible sync layer.
You can usually fix this by adjusting the field mappings or the default record status in the HubSpot NetSuite connector, but that specific packaged integration doesn’t give much flexibility around how Company status is set. For tighter control over the mapping logic, a lightweight middleware like Skyvia can handle the status translation on the way into NetSuite without changing your HubSpot setup. I used it in my case, but you can also check Airbyte or Fivetran.
