I’ve been testing HubSpot triggers in n8n and ran into something confusing.
In a YouTube tutorial I watched, the author showed that the HubSpot Trigger’s test webhook URL worked even when the workflow was turned OFF.
I tried the same setup on my n8n instance: workflow is OFF, using the test URL from the HubSpot Trigger node, but it doesn’t receive any events when I create a new contact in HubSpot.
Is it actually possible for the HubSpot Trigger’s test URL to work while the workflow is OFF, or should the workflow always be ON to receive events?
Hi @Grove_,
I recognize the YouTube tutorial you’re referring to, where the test webhook URL appears to function even with the workflow inactive. Note that the author there is using the URL from the generic Webhook Trigger node, not the HubSpot Trigger node. However, I do not recommend relying on the test endpoint for production use, regardless of its behavior. Instead, activate the workflow and configure HubSpot to use the production webhook URL from the n8n WebhookTrigger node. This ensures reliable, ongoing event reception.

@Grove_ thanks for sharing the video link. I was actually referring to a different tutorial, but I checked yours and couldn’t find the part about the workflow being inactive or using the test URL. Could you point me to the exact timestamp? I see one already in the link, but I’m still not spotting it.
Hi @Grove_
I am very certain that it is not possible to trigger a webhook when it is turned off. When a workflow is OFF, n8n does not expose the test webhook URL publicly, so HubSpot cannot reach it.
