How to update deal stage history when adding new deal stage

I recently added a new deal stage towards the beginning of my pipeline. Unfortunately, this has caused issues for report which expects that deals have progressed through each stage, but now there is a new stage that no previously existing deals have been in. Is there a way to touch all of my existing deals that have progressed past a deal stage to add the new stage to their deal history?

This is not an easy feat. Can you tell me what report, or filters you are using, that is skewing the results because the deals have never hit that stage?

I know two ways of converting all deals in a pipeline to a new stage and then reverting back to the current stage. It can be done via deals export (current stage), import (new stage), import (current stage), or through workflows that copies the current deal stage to a new deal property, updates the deal stage to the new stage, then copies the original stage back to the deal. Or another workflow that has several if/then branches. However, if it can be done through adjusting filters, I think this would be better.

Best Practice:

I would also suggest creating a datestamp for each deal stage in each pipeline and use the automated workflows to set the date stamp. This way, all you would have to do in the future is bulk update a date stamp. I explained how to do this with a screenshot here. :slightly_smiling_face:
