How to unlink or transfer a domain from a deleted account in HubSpot?

Hi there,

I’m trying to connect a domain that was previously attached to my deactivated/deleted account to a new hubspot account but i keep getting an error message saying ‘This domain was added by another HubSpot customer’ . Please is there any way I permanently delete the old account? or rather just unlink the domain so I can connect it to my new account.

Hi @CRicci,

If you can’t access the old account, contact HubSpot Support directly. Let them know your situation so they can verify ownership and help unlink the domain from the previous account, allowing you to add it to your new one.

Please how do I contact support directly on a free account?
Or is there an email address I can email them on?

Hi @CRicci ,

HubSpot doesn’t offer a public support email address. All support requests must be submitted through the in-app help options. Unfortunately, on the Free plan, you won’t be able to contact the support team directly.

You can find more details here: Get help with HubSpot

That said, the HubSpot Community is the best place to get assistance. Community managers can sometimes escalate issues internally, but their role is primarily to guide and assist through community interactions.

Since @BérangèreL is is already part of this thread, she might be able to help further. I’m also tagging a couple of active community managers in case she’s unavailable:@DianaGomez, @Victor_Becerra
Hope this helps point you in the right direction!

Unfortunately, the users cannot manually delete a previous HubSpot account or remove a domain themselves, this is intentionally restricted to prevent unauthorized use or domain hijacking.

You should contact HubSpot Support and explain that you’d like to connect the domain to your new account, but it’s currently linked to an old and inactive account.

To speed things up, make sure to include:

  • Proof of domain ownership (such as a DNS record, screenshot from your domain registrar, or an email from that domain).
  • Details of the old account (email address, company name, or account ID, if available).

Once they verify that you own the domain, the support team can manually release it and allow you to connect it to your new HubSpot account.

Hi @CRicci ,
This issue can only be resolved by the HubSpot support team, there’s no workaround available on the user side. I recommend reaching out to them directly for assistance.

Hi @CRicci and welcome to the HubSpot Community!
Thanks for reaching out and thanks all for your help!
I can see that you are a Free users therefore you don’t have access to the Support Team.
Yes, you can delete your account but you’ll need to remove/disconnect the domain before deleting the account.
Here is how to recover your inactive HubSpot account so that you can disconnect the domain, otherwise you can submit the form at the end of the article to see if there is a way to delete it permanently but with the domain attached to it, I am not sure this will work.
Thanks,
Bérangère

I have a similar issue - I can’t find which account was the one that has the domain connected to it. Is there a way in which HubSpot can identify which is the one and deactivate the domain?

Hi @DamianSherpa and welcome, we are so glad to have you on the HubSpot Community!
I understand that you’d like to identify and remove a connected domain in HubSpot. Please let me know if that’s not the case.
When looking internally, I can see 2 connected domains (I sent a private message with this information).
And here are some resources to help with the removal of the domain:
- Delete a subdomain from the domain manager
- Manage system domains
Let me know if you need additional help in removing the domain, we are here for you!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for the quick response @BérangèreL  Unfortunatelly, my domain seems to be tied to an account and I can’t figure out which account that is tied to. I have several accounts with our clients and some others that are being used for our App Listings. Is there a way to know which one is holding the domain?
