How to separate prospecting calls from calls working deals in reports

I just started using Hubspot for my team a few months ago. Having an issue in the reporting where I can’t figure out how to separate prospecting calls (booking an initial meeting) from follow up calls working the deal afterward.

Is there any sort of data field where you can only count calls/emails before a meeting was scheduled with a contact?

If not, how do people usually separate this out? Do you just add calls to deals once something is qualified, or change the lifecycle stage of the contact? I can’t figure out how to report on that either.

Ok from what I can tell there’s no real separation between calls on contacts + deals - if they’re associated it adds the call to both automatically.

So main question is - how can I separate out calls BEFORE a first qualifying meeting from AFTER that meeting, specifically for reporting to find out how many prospecting touches it takes to get a meeting?

@HPerkins Are the reps logging calls with their outcomes, call types, or any notes on the call that indicate prospecting versus a qualifying call?

No. On my system there are only a few options under outcomes / call type, none of which are appropriate for this distinction. Is there a way to add new fields?

Right now outcomes are:

  • Busy
  • Connected
  • Left live Msg
  • Left VM
  • Left live message
  • No answer
  • Wrong Number

Call Direction is the only other option, which is between inbound and outbound.

We don’t have anything in notes - I suppose I could have them type ‘prospecting’ in notes but that seems clunky. Could I add a field that literally just differentiates between prospecting call or deal follow up call?
