I have a contact with one phone number, and it turns out that is the wrong number. I do not have the correct number for this contact (yet), but would like to remove the old/incorrect number so it doesn’t get called again.
It seems like once you enter a phone number on a contact, you can’t remove it unless it’s replaced with another number! Is that right? There surely must be a way to remove a phone number from a contact, since it’s not a required field on the contact anyway. Am I blind and missing something?

Is number formatting applied to the phone number? If so, click ‘Remove number formatting’, deleting the number afterwards should work.

Follow-up question: Is it possible to remove phone numbers from multiple contacts at the same time. For example if I have a list of contacts that all need to have their mobile numbers removed, how can I do that without deleting each number in each contact.
That would work with a simple workflow. Make it triggered by list membership and have it clear the property value “mobile phone number”.
