I am currently working on cleaning our duplicate contacts and have run into a problem that I feel HAS to be a feature. Our duplicates are almost always users onboarding with a personal email and a work email. We obviously want to merge into the work email and try to avoid merging into any generic @gmail @yahoo @icloud etc. Please tell me if there is a way to either manually filter or use basic logic to indicate that if there are two emails associated with a contact, merge into the email not containg “gmail” “yahoo” etc.
Hi @KGanger,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
I wanted to share a resource with more information on the HubSpot’s duplicate management tool which should be able to detect such duplicates automatically (available in Professional & Enterpise versions of HubSpot).
Could you tell us which version of HubSpot you’re working with?
Thanks,

Thank you @KGanger!
I wanted to invite a couple of subject matter experts to this thread to see if they have any tips they could share:
Hi @danmoyle, @OPerek-Clark, @RBozeman, how do you usually manage contacts’ personal & work email addresses? Do you have any advice for @KGanger on how they could merge duplicate contact records in bulk? Thank you!
Cheers

Hi @MiaSrebrnjak !
HubSpot’s deduplication is good, but since you need specialized features, you’ll have to use a third-party tool that solely focuses on deduplication (there are many in the HS App Marketplace). They’ll help select what data to keep after merging, based on properties you can filter by.

Hey there @KGanger . As @MiaSrebrnjak mentioned, the HubSpot deduplication tool helps merge those contacts pretty seamlessly (albeit manually). In addition, do your forms create new contacts for each submission (a setting in forms) or allow users on the same IP address to simply update their emails? That could be a hiccup in your set-up. If I use my gmail first, but give you my work email later, it should simply update my email and not create a new contact.
