Hi all,
Just getting started in the Hubspot world and I’ve been trying to find out how to prevent contacts from my company domain from becoming leads in our tool?
Blocking the domain is one option that I know of, but if I do so - and there is an email sent to/from that email address from an actual lead, will it still save it in their record?
Hi @justip,
As far as I know, there isn’t any specific settings for this. Any contact that submits a form will be marked as a lead, unless you deactivate this for all contacts (Settings > Objects > Contacts > Lifecycle Stage).
Is there any particular reason why you don’t want these contacts showing up as leads? You can always create an active list that filters for Email domain = your company domain. This list can then be excluded wherever you think it would make sense.
When a HubSpot user sends an email to a contact, the email will not save to their own record, no.
Best regards!
If we have a company that is a business partner (primarily for marketing purposes) and do not want that in our leads, how do we exclude such contacts and companies from becoming a lead ?
I mark these as “evangelists” instead.
This used to be a feature in HubSpot, you could exclude domains from creating leads, which prevented employees, but also competitors, from being marketed to. Why does HubSpot keep removing useful features or putting things that came as standard behind a paywall?
Hi @RBridge,
We hear your frustration! Your feedback on features being paywalled is noted. I’ll pass it along internally!

I just added our office IP address in the tracking exclusion settings and filtered out our domain in lead scoring rules to make sure we don’t track ourselves as leads.
The easiest way for me was just excluding our company domain from being tracked as leads, and it didn’t mess up real contacts at all. If someone external emailed with our domain included, Hubspot still kept their record clean. It’s more about ignoring internal activity. Funny enough, I first noticed this issue while setting things up after we’d worked with Your Company Formations Ltd, so keeping internal data separate was super important for us.
