Hi Community,

I have been trying to add a note to custom object(later app object) using [api]( [Create - HubSpot docs](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api-reference/legacy/crm/activities/notes/create-note) ).

PS: I have write scope for custom & contact object ( “crm.objects.contacts.write”, “crm.objects.custom.write”)

Hi @ramkumar1021!

The error `"The scope needed for this API call isn't available for public use"` is a different issue from a simple missing scope; it means the **legacy notes endpoint** you’re using requires a scope that isn’t publicly available.

Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it:

1. **You’re using the legacy API** (`/legacy/crm/activities/notes`). Switch to the **current Notes API** instead.
2. **Required scope:** The current create-note endpoint requires `crm.objects.contacts.write` — which you already have. The legacy endpoint may require an internal/private scope.
3. **Your association:** You’re associating to a custom/app object. Make sure you also have `crm.objects.custom.write` (which you do) and that the `associationTypeId: 22` is valid for your object pair.

Switch to the current endpoint at [/api-reference/latest/crm/activities/notes/create-note](https://community.hubspot.com/api-reference/latest/crm/activities/notes/create-note) — your existing scopes should be sufficient.

Let me know how that goes 🙂
