How to be a successful community manager?

I couldn’t find suitable location to choose the category of this question, but I want to ask the Hubspot community managers, how to become a successful community manager, you are managing the Hubspot community. Hubspot is not a normal brand, it is already famous amongst the marketers. You are managing such a vast community. I am looking for your expert advice. Any tips or your experience around this can help me a lot.

Thanks in advance :blue_heart:

Hey @kamal_k7 — thanks for the thoughtful question! :blue_heart:

I’d say a big part of being a successful community manager is remembering that community isn’t just about platforms, metrics, or events—it’s about building real habits of connection and trust. A few things I’ve learned managing HubSpot Communities:

  • Listen before acting. Spend time understanding what members are actually looking for, not just what you think they want.
  • Create value consistently. Whether it’s events, resources, or discussion starters, your goal is to make participation feel rewarding and worth their time.
  • Empower members. The strongest communities are the ones where members see themselves as contributors, not just consumers. Give them space to share their expertise.
  • Partner internally. Align with product, marketing, and support teams so the community is connected to the bigger picture, not siloed.
  • Stay human. Be conversational, empathetic, and approachable—it makes a big difference when people feel like they’re engaging with a real person, not just a role.

HubSpot’s community is vast and global, but these principles apply whether you’re managing 100 people or 100,000. Happy to dive deeper into any of these if it’s helpful!
