How to Automatically Track Facebook Messenger Activity in Contact Properties

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on setting up a workflow in HubSpot to automatically track Facebook Messenger activity in a custom contact property. My goal is to log messages received from Facebook Messenger into the CRM, so we can easily see this activity within a contact’s record.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

1. Integrated Facebook Messenger with HubSpot.

2. Created a custom property called “Facebook Messenger Activity” to store message data.

Now I need help with:

•Setting up a workflow that triggers when a Facebook Messenger message is received.

•Automatically updating the custom property with the message content or a placeholder indicating a new message.

Has anyone done something similar or have any tips on the best way to set this up? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @austinteo

Verify Facebook Messenger Integration: Ensure that the Facebook Messenger integration is correctly linked to HubSpot by testing message delivery into the HubSpot Conversations inbox.

Create a Custom Property: Use a multi-line text field type for the custom “Facebook Messenger Activity” property to allow storage of message content or placeholders.

Set Workflow Trigger: Configure a contact-based workflow triggered by a Facebook Messenger message using “Conversation properties” as the trigger criteria, ensuring it recognizes messages from the platform.

Update Custom Property: Add an action to “Set Contact Property Value” in the workflow to update the custom property with the actual message content or a placeholder when the trigger is met.

Configure Message Content Capture: Use tokens in the workflow to pull message details into the custom property, or set a static placeholder like “New message received” if direct message capture isn’t possible.

Add Conditional Logic (Optional): Set conditions within the workflow to trigger only for specific contacts or message types to streamline data tracking.

Test and Refine Workflow: After configuring the workflow, send test messages via Facebook Messenger to ensure proper logging in the custom property, adjusting as necessary.

I’m glad I could assist you. Feel free to reach out anytime for further help. If my response solved your query, feel free to mark it as the solution. Have a great day!

Hi @austinteo,

To automatically track Facebook Messenger activity in HubSpot, you’ve already made great progress by integrating Facebook Messenger and creating the custom property “Facebook Messenger Activity.” Now, to complete the setup, you can create a workflow that triggers whenever a new Facebook Messenger message is received. In the workflow builder, select “Conversation received” as the trigger. Once the workflow is triggered, set an action to update your custom property with either the actual message content or a placeholder like “New message received.” Additionally, you can add automation to notify your team when a new message comes in, ensuring timely follow-up. This way, all Messenger activity will be automatically logged in the contact’s record, keeping your CRM organized and up-to-date.

Best regards!
