How to add the language switcher to the global header?

Hi,

I followed the steps described on this page Create pages in multiple languages

to add a language switcher to the global header, but the module remains empty and displays nothing.

In the html source the module tags appear, but they remain empty.
I’m working on a drag&drop landing page using the “Growth” default theme and a pro subscription.
I got the multilanguage header to work, and there is a language variant for the page I have tested it on, but the language switcher is a problem.
Also, is there a way to restore a previous version of the global header, or to somehow save them as drafts or something ?

thanks for the detailed informations.

There is one important thing to keep in mind when using the language switcher:

it will only be visible if at least one additional language variation is published. Darft pages do not count here. So if you have the language switcher in the header but only the primary language variation of a page published, it won’t work.

As for restoring previous versions, while editing the global element/page/module/template, you have the option to check previous revisions and restore them.

You can find this function here:

View → Version history

Important note here: If you restore a revision, you have to update/publish the page again. Otherwise the revision won’t be active.

Go to Settings > Website > Languages and verify that:

All intended languages are listed and active.

The default language is set correctly.

Language codes (e.g., “en”, “es”, “fr”) are accurate—these are essential for the switcher to function.

  1. Confirm Page Language Variants

Ensure that each page has a corresponding language variant.

If a variant is missing, the switcher may not display. Even if the content is identical, a separate language variant must exist.

  1. Associate Content with the Correct Language

Make sure that all content (text, images, etc.) is properly linked to the appropriate language.

By double-checking these settings, you can resolve most issues with the language switcher not appearing.
