Hope the Subject is clear enough for the discussion.
Here is a detailed scenario:
1. You get a prospective Client.
2. Task assigned is monthly-based SEO with new keyword suggestions.
3. You do your homework and find that domain name and product name as the keywords which are unique and they rank for.
4. You choose long-tail keywords as a method to proceed further.
5. You identify couple of keywords with the help of tools ( AdWords / answer the public / related search queries in google / etc.. )
6. You make a list of finding in a week’s time.
Now, how much would you quote the client for giving keyword suggestions? how many keywords for a said amount ?
For example - A basic SEO Package could include 8 - 10 keywords for a said amount of Rs.8000/- ( 104USD / 144 AUD / 384 AED ). So, how much would each keyword be?
Let us understand what is the general norm around the world.
Instead of per keyword, I would look at a few things.
What’s your hourly rate and how many hours are you projecting this engagement will take?
Factor in the cost of the keywords and pass that along to the client. No upcharge.
Your value is in the strategic recommendations and work, not the keyword.
Can you give some kind of projected value based on past performance? That could also add to your quote. For instance, if your track record shows a specific growth rate for clients, increasing their traffic and their conversion rates, that could help you decide on the value of your work.
Personally, I don’t think charging per keyword (a short-term solution) works as well as developing a relationship and building long-term value.
Instead of charging customers as per the keywords, it’s better to charge them according to the time you’re investing in providing the service. Along with that, also keep the things you’re offering and duration of the service in your mind. Combine all of them and then estimate what would be the apt cost of your service.
Others have given some great advice and the only thing I’ll say is that no one in the industry charges like this so you might find it harder to find clients if you try to go with this business model!
