How does HubSpot determine the open / engagement rate of my emails?

Hello! I work for a startup that uses HubSpot for sales emails, but they sometimes go straight into spam.

I read that increasing the engagement rate of the emails could prevent this - through things like opens, clicks, and replies - and I was wondering how these are calculated by HubSpot.

For example, if someone marks an email as opened, but doesn’t actually read it, would it factor into the open rate?

Hi @ccjia068,

Opens are registered through a tracking pixel that is being loaded. This article explains in detail how open and click tracking works: Understand HubSpot Sales email open and click tracking | Knowledge Base

If spam filters are an issue, you could consider disabling the tracking as the mere presence of tracking features can trigger spam filters. Turn off one-to-one email tracking or attachment logging

It’s a tradeoff between analytics and deliverability.

Best regards!
