I recently deduped my database, which meant reassigning new contacts to existing deals in HubSpot. Once the merge was complete, I compared the HubSpot ID of the Deal + the HubSpot ID of the Contact in my database, to what HubSpot showed for both.
Where there was a mismatch, I did an import of the deal IDs back into HubSpot, with the amended contact HubSpot ID in the ‘Associated Contact ID’ field. I thought this would do the trick, but when I look at all of these deals, they show 0 associated contacts. The ‘Associated Contact ID’ field is populated correctly, but the ‘Deal - Contacts’ field is blank.
How can I update the existing deals with the new contact association???
Hi @DBroadus,
I think I need a little bit more context to help you out here. My understanding so far is that you have:
- A file with your deals from HubSpot, which contains the Deal record ID
- A file with your contacts from HubSpot, which contains the Contact record ID
- You have then added the correct Contact record IDs to the Deals file, under the column ‘Associated Contact ID’
- You have reimported the Deals files into HubSpot, but the Contacts have not associated to the Deals
Is my undersyanding correct?
Did any errors show up in the import wizard when you completed the import?
Thanks,
Louise
Hi Louise,
Yes, that is correct. Based on other feedback, I then imported the file using both Contacts and Deals. For this import, I then get an error message saying that the Contact Record IDs I am using in the import don’t exist in HubSpot, although they are the same IDs in the Associated Contact ID field, which absolutely exist ![]()
Hey @DBroadus,
A couple of things that I’d ask you to check to try and work out what is going wrong here-
- Your contact export from HubSpot is up to date since you have merged/deleted contacts. If I’m having issues like this I generally do a fresh export and start again from scratch
- When you are importing you are selecting the following options - Import file from computer > One file > Multiple Objects > Contacts and Deals
- When you get to the mapping screen, map the column ‘Record ID’ to ‘Record ID - Deals’ and map the ‘Asscoiated Contact ID’ column to ‘Record ID - Contacts’
Can you confirm that you have done all of the above and are still facing the same issue?
Thanks,
Louise
Hi Louise,
I got it to work, at last, by simply using “One File + Multiple Objects,” and mapping “Deal Record ID - Deal Record ID” and “Contact Record ID - Contact Record ID.” I had already imported the “Associated Contact ID” field with the new data, which was populated, but that was not enough to establish the connection, until I also did the step above. I could not get this to work yesterday as the few records I chose to use for my test happened to be among the very few in my file to have issues - sod’s law!
Anyway, I’ve worked it out now. Thanks for your help!
Hey @DBroadus,
Could you do me a favour and please mark my reply as a solution if you felt it helped to make it easier for others to find!
Thanks,
Louise
