We don’t want to lose any of the previous deals and data - but any TIPS on how to handle? One company purchased the other. If we make it a PARENT - will that merge all deals on the parent company page? Or should we make a NEW COMPANY (parent) NAME and make the orginal 2 companies CHILD?
Let’s say these companies are called “Dunder Mifflin” and “The Michael Scott Paper Company”. During the merger, “Dunder Mifflin” bought “The Michael Scott Paper Company”.
I would leave the company records exactly as they were, without merging or setting up parent/child relationships. I would simply pin a note to each company record, informing about the merger and add to the note a hyperlink to the other company. At some point in the future, we will probably be able to associate companies with companies. Once that’s possible, I would do that, too.
I don’t see the value in merging: Technically, the old deals of “The Michael Scott Paper Company” are in fact still correctly located under that old company record. After merging, they have not become “Dunder Mifflin” deals. With the same explanation, I wouldn’t want any other information to be merged.
If the contacts under Michael Scott Paper Company changed their email addresses to Dunder Mifflin domain, would we have two contact records for the same person? Or should we add the new email as primary, and retain the history under the same contact?
