I am trying to create an ad on linkedin through HubSpot ads and I am having quite a bit of trouble using HubSpot ads. I am not sure what the root of the problem is so I apologize if this sounds confusing.
Context: My boss controls our LinkedIn ad account and is the primary/connected user in HubSpot. I’m a separate HubSpot super admin trying to build campaigns on that same account. (I have access to our company linkedin as well).
What happens:
I go to create an ad campaign
HubSpot shows: “Each HubSpot user needs to connect a LinkedIn ad account to be able to create ad campaigns”
I go to the ads setting, find the linkedin ad account
I click “Connect user”
I get: “Sorry, something’s gone wrong. Please refresh the page or try again later.”
Refreshing and retrying doesn’t help.
I’m not sure if this is a LinkedIn-side permissions issue (I may not be added as a user on the ad account in LinkedIn Campaign Manager yet) or something else in HubSpot. Before I ask my boss to go dig around in LinkedIn’s settings, I want to know I’m pointing him at the right fix.
Has anyone dealt with this? What’s the actual first step to get a second HubSpot user creating ads on an account someone else owns?
Before a HubSpot user can connect to an existing Ad account, they typically need to have the right role assigned directly in LinkedIn Campaign Manager first. However, as it seems the error is occurring when I believe you’d be prompted to login to your Linkedin account – would you mind also trying this via a separate browser (e.g. Safari, Chrome, Firefox etc.)
This isn’t an exact match on the issue, but I’m curious if this existing community thread could point you in the right direction:
I have not run into this myself, but I’m with Sam on this one and have a feeling it’s due to the fact that your HubSpot User email is not yet associated with a LinkedIn Campaign Manager account.
When you try to connect to the Linkedin Ad Account from within HubSpot, I believe HubSpot expects your email to already be linked to an established LinkedIn Campaign Manager account. So, not having one yet could potentially cause a failure when trying to establish from inside HubSpot.
I would try creating your LinkedIn Campaign account first, from LinkedIn directly. Ensure it is activated and linked to the same email you use for your HubSpot login, then go back to HubSpot and try to initiate the LinkedIn connection again.
This is all just guesswork based on my knowledge of HubSpot and LinkedIn, so I’ll defer to another Community member who may have more insight into this specific issue, but hopefully that information is somewhat helpful!
