How do I create field that sets up a unique identify number

Hello,

I’m trying to create a ticket property that creates unique Sequential ticket Numbers.

The field ideally needs to be a mixture of letters and numbers for example:

RMA-2021-001

RMA-2021-002

RMA-2021-003

RMA-2021-004

I can’t figure out how to do it and make the ticket automatically create it each time.

Does anyone have a solution?

Hi @CophieSollins,

There isn’t a default feature in HubSpot to achieve this, unfortunately. It would require either a custom code action in a workflow (available in Operations Hub Professional) or a third party solution, e.g. Zapier and Google Sheets.

With the first options, a custom coded workflow action would keep track of the running number and populate a ticket property. Here a developer would have to code such an action.

With the second option, you would sync tickets into a Google Sheet using Zapier, populate the running number / code in the sheet and sync the tickets back into HubSpot, along with the code.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

Best regards!

Hi, @karstenkoehler can you recommend a developer who could do this for me?

Hi @CophieSollins,

@karstenkoehler mentionned me you needed someone to develop that for you.
I can help you out if you’d like, feel free to send me a DM and we’ll take it from there !

Have a good day,

Ludwig

Hey Hubspot? Why is this not an included feature of the system to enable an autogenerated numerical sequence? It seems like this should be a basic native function. Your competition has this available without custom coding, or additional features. It is a system counter, increased by one, for each new object creation.

I agree.

Furthermore, I have put in place a mechanism to create a rolling number for my tickets but that still not resolves the issue as I see know way to have this number integrated in the customer portal which keeps working with the object Id of the ticket (first clients ticket issued got a id over 4 billion … bit weird)

Hey @CophieSollins ,

as Karsten already mentioned, there is no native HubSpot function.

You can of course do this by using custom code but for that would need Data Hub Professional which costs around 711 €/yearly or 790 €/monthly or developers on your end. Because of this we have created an app called ‘Generate Sequential Numbers’. It is an easy, reliable option that allows you to create a workflow automation which can attach different kinds of numbers, for example a ticket number each time a ticket is created! They can contain Pre- or Suffixes and you can set it to a certain fixed length, as well as choose the starting number to just continue if you had already started for example a manual numbering system beforehand and want to now do this within a workflow action ! It is 9,99 per month or 99,99 per year.

For more info on what the app can do, you can check the marketplace listing , look at our documentation or simply ask us via apps@baskey.eu! We are always happy to help, so don’t hesitate to contact us!

I found a great solution. Unmatched offer an app called sequential, it costs £14 a month but works a dream.

Was easy to set up and havent had to amend it since its been running.

Hi @CophieSollins, that’s awesome, thanks for sharing this integration with the HubSpot Community!
Here is the link of “Sequential” on the HubSpot Marketplace.
Thanks and have a great day!

Perfect that Sequential works for you! It is very similar to our own app but a little more expensive.

Has Hubspot looked at this yet?
A short sequence number unique within each company would be really helpful when discussing tickets with colleagues.
Hubspot has a unique identified that is far too long for that purpose. 5 digits is still 99,999 tickets… plenty of room for growth here.

Hi @mike.brearton and welcome, it’s a pleasure to have you here! :orange_heart:

Thanks for sharing this idea with the HubSpot Community!

A short, company-specific ticket number sounds like a valuable addition for team collaboration.

While HubSpot ticket IDs are unique system-wide, having a simplified sequence could make daily operations smoother.

I’ve noticed a similar idea already present in our Ideas Forum: Have a sequential deal number created each time a deal is created . To contribute, you can upvote the existing idea and share more details about your specific use case in the comments.

In the meantime, if you haven’t yet, I encourage you to check the workarounds that @karstenkoehler and @CophieSollins shared on this topic (thank you so much!). These options are either to use a custom coded workflow action or to use a third-party tool.

Please let us know if you have additional questions, we are here for you!

Have a lovely day!

Not they have not. There is a market place app called sequential that is a good work around. HubSpot Marketplace depending on how many you need a month its free for up to 20 and charged after that.
