Can someone at hubspot explain the idea behind the CTA styling? As a theme developer I would like to create button styles at a theme level so the user doesn’t have to worry about styles.
The current (legacy) CTAs at least offered a no style option so we could tell clients when they made a CTA just choose no style from the drop down and then we can use CSS to display them correctly.
It was never a great solution, adding CTAs always felt long and clunky. Also for some reason the CMS loads blurry images of the text before loading the text in (not sure why it can’t just be sent in the initial request rather than requiring JS) causing page layout shifts and reflows as the page loads (Bad for SEO).
But anyway the new BETA add’s in even more steps and barriers to using CTAs. I think most our clients will just opt for adding a standard link and losing all the tracking.

For 99% of CTAs that we use we just want a button and for 99% of those what we actually want is an a tag with a class that we can style from the theme.
What am I expected to do?
I read that the Legacy CTAs will be sunset this year

Hi [@matt\_scott](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/64119),

I’d say that all currently available styling options are “relics” of the old HubSpot (which was highly based on jQuery and jQuery UI). I’m more than happy that there is a CTA function update on it’s way.

About the styling: I know it’s not a great solution but the “link (no style)” option paired with a CSS-class is currently the only (good) option you have to style CTAs theme-wide correctly. Another one would be to overwrite the default classes with a dynamic CSS class. Most likely you’ll need either a seperate CTA CSS which will be loaded after the “standard\_header\_include”-hubl or a lot of “!important” statements.

hope that helps a bit

best,

Anton

Hi Anton thanks for the response, there is no “link (no style)” option in the new CTAs only in the legacy ones which I see are being depreciated later this year. I guess we just need to hope they put an option in the new ones before they do that
