How can I set current provider in a dynamic way?

Hi!

I would like to be able to set the current provider that a potential customer uses for our type of service, plus I’d like to list different software solutions they use that we can integrate to.

I have currently implemented that as static lists, but that list will be difficult to manage going ahead.

Instead, I would like to be able to insert these other providers as companies in Hubspot, and then be able to choose the provider from the Companies list. This would make it much more dynamic and scalable.

I have done it in a similar way in SalesForce.com already before 2015, so it should be possible in a tool like Hubspot I think.

I suppose I want to be able to select these providers/competitors the same way I can choose a parent company for example.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey @Montisola when you say a “provider” would you mean you want something associated with the contact to show a service provider they’re using?

If so, there’s two real options here.

1: You could use a custom contact property to list each provider they’re using. You can segment these in lists, reports and workflows then if you like.

2. This sounds like the option you’re looking for, but requires HubSpot enterprise. If you want something like companies but to denote something other than the company the contact works for, you’re looking for custom objects.

Hi! Yes, when I say provider I mean the service they are currently using (a nicer word for competitor  ). But I would put it on the Company level rather than Contact level.

So I would for example enter a competitor/current provider as a Company (with its own “card”) and then I would like to be able to select that competitor/company for my potential customer (on the Company level) for example under a property that I could name “Current provider”. Same thing goes for the systems they are using that would be adjacent to us (hence require integration) - I would prefer to have a dynamic list of companies/SW to choose from.

So when you say “Custom contact property” how would you mean I would implement that? I have currently created a property (on object type Company --> Company information and then under choosing options either “multiple checkboxes”, dropdown select or similar.) However, this requires manual intervention on admin level as soon as a new competitor/provider is identified.

Might be that your option 2 is what I’m looking for. Once again though, for the Company level, not Contact level.

We’re a startup and there’s no way I can pay for the Enteprise license though

Best Regards

It does sound like it unfortunately! The only other option would be a custom company property as you mentioned. If you wanted to avoid having to add in a new checkbox/dropdown property you could set it as a single line text field so anyone can type anything into it. This has it’s own set of problems though as it can cause inconsistencies in the text entered, one person might type in “Toms phone company” another might type in “Toms Telecom” for example when they both mean the same company.

Thanks! I’ll dream on about it then and try to find work arounds until I can show sales big enough to motivate the Enterprise license
(As the option with free text fields give me serious allergies  )
