Hi @Azeemfarid,

Thanks for sharing your journey and ambition. While I’m not available for one-on-one mentorship, I’d be happy to share some tips that might help guide you along your path, with the help of generative AI:

1. Build Your Foundation

  • Enroll in Online Courses: Start with structured courses to grasp the fundamentals. Consider free courses on HubSpot Academy, Google Digital Garage, or Facebook Blueprint. These platforms often provide certificates that boost your credibility.
  • Read Industry Blogs and Books: Dive into blogs such as HubSpot’s Marketing Blog, Social Media Examiner, and Buffer. Additionally, consider books like Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk for real-world insights.
  • Experiment with Tools: Familiarize yourself with social media management tools (like Hootsuite or Buffer) by signing up for their free trials. Hands-on practice helps solidify your learning.

2. Stay Current

  • Subscribe to Newsletters: Get updates from platforms like Social Media Today or Hootsuite’s blog. Setting aside a few minutes each week to skim these can help you keep up with trends.
  • Follow Industry Experts: Identify and follow influencers on LinkedIn, Twitter, or Instagram who share their insights on social media strategies.
  • Attend Webinars and Conferences: Many organizations offer free webinars and virtual conferences. Look for events on platforms like Eventbrite or Meetup to learn about emerging trends.

3. Practice Makes Perfect

  • Launch Personal Projects: Create a dedicated social media page or blog to test different strategies. Experiment with content types, posting times, and engagement tactics.
  • Volunteer or Freelance: Offer to manage social media for local nonprofits or small businesses. This real-world experience can teach you valuable lessons about audience engagement and campaign management.
  • Analyze and Adjust: Use free analytics tools like Facebook Insights or Twitter Analytics to track your progress. Document what works and refine your strategies over time.

4. Network Actively

  • Join Online Communities: Engage in specialized groups on LinkedIn or Facebook related to social media marketing. Regular participation can open up opportunities to learn and collaborate.
  • Attend Local Meetups: Look for local marketing meetups or industry events. Even virtual meetups can help you build connections and gain insights from professionals in the field.
  • Engage on Social Media: Don’t hesitate to comment on posts by industry leaders or share your own insights. This active engagement can lead to mentoring opportunities or partnerships in the future.

5. Set Clear Goals

  • Define Short- and Long-Term Milestones: Break your 4-year vision into smaller, achievable targets. For example, set goals for learning specific skills, building a portfolio, or acquiring your first client within set time frames.
  • Use Project Management Tools: Tools like Trello, Asana, or even a simple spreadsheet can help you track your progress. Set weekly or monthly tasks that align with your larger goals.
  • Measure Your Success: Establish clear metrics such as follower growth, engagement rates, or client acquisition numbers. Reviewing these metrics regularly will help you stay on track and adjust your strategies as needed.

I hope these suggestions help you as you continue your journey. Best of luck in building your social media marketing agency!

Welcome Azeem! That’s a solid long term goal to have. Imo, you can start learning the fundamentals while working on a few small projects at the same time, even if it’s just for your own social media profiles, a friend’s business or even a local business. Real world experience will teach you way faster than courses alone. Keep asking questions here, plenty of people around who are happy to share what they know :slightly_smiling_face:

Wishing you all the best! :+1:

Hey @Azeemfarid,
great goal!

While I’m not a social media mentor, here a few tips&tricks from being a developer mentor:

  1. You won’t become an expert over night → Never stop learning
  2. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. If you’ve made one, learn from it.
  3. Don’t be afraid of breaking laws. Social Media might seem like it’s very straight forward, but try new things. If everybody tells you “The button needs to be red, because it draws more attention, try green. Because in a sea of red buttons, no button stands out” (just a visual example; I hope you get the point  )
  4. Things like “But we’re doing it for x years” can be a great chat opener as you can ask “Great! Are you happy with the current situation?”
  5. Look into Atomic-Design-Priciples. While it was “designed” for design and web-development, the idea/approach behind this can be applied to almost every aspect of your (professional) life
  6. Since you’re new in this field - try getting a job, define what works for you and what doesn’t.
  7. Decide if you want to be more of a generalist or subject matter expert.
  8. Do online-courses, google, let AI generate a list of things/topics you should learn … (see example prompt below)

Example AI prompt:

You are a experienced social media expert and need to help me create a learning path to get started as a social media expert in [your desired field of work].
I need you to provide me a simple [5/10/20] step program so I can learn the foundation. Give me this step program with small steps and intermediate goals so I can have messurable quick wins.
Optional:
I’m planning to use [trello, clickup, teamwork,…] as my learning management tool. Every step should be a dedicated task and bigger goals should be lists. Create me such setup in this program

hope this helps

best,
Anton
