How can I change the Lead Status upfront of any contact without getting into Contact properties.

Hi @Ishaani

U can use workflows to change the property value easily for all contacts based in rules to WorkFlow.

Example: “if fillet the form”, “if is member of a list”, and many others options.

Did this post help solve your problem? If so, please mark it as a solution.

Best regards!

Thank You!

@Ishaani I use the free version so don’t have access to workflows as @DanielSanchez mentioned.

I bulk edit whenever possible. I would go to contacts and uses filters for lead status unknown and then change them all.

AS an aside, here is a great article on lead status - How to Manage Your Sales Process in HubSpot With Lead Status

@DanielSanchez Thank you for your swift response, using the free version currently.

@gelflex-cc Thanks for the article. It has helped me understand more about the subject. However, as you’ve suggeste I’ve tried using Filters but unable to change the Lead Status of multiple contacts in bulk. It would be great if you could share a screenshot of bulk editing.

Thanks!

@Ishaani of course.

Steps:

go to contacts

then filter for lead status and the status you want to change - possibly is unknown.

then apply filter

select all those you want to change

edit

select the property lead status

pick the new status and

This “bulk edit” can be used for many things.

Set default property values

What is it?

You can now set default values for properties in HubSpot. When creating or editing a property, admins can define a value that will automatically be applied whenever a new record is created.

Default property values are applied consistently across HubSpot—whether records are created manually, through workflows, or via APIs—so commonly used values are automatically set, saving users a step and keeping data consistent.

Why does it matter?

Many teams rely on the same values being set repeatedly when creating records. Without default values, this often leads to repetitive manual entry, inconsistent data, or complex workflows built just to fill in the blanks.

With default property values, you can:

  • Save time by pre-filling commonly used values
  • Reduce data gaps and “unknown” states
  • Eliminate workflow workarounds used solely to initialize data
  • Improve overall data quality and consistency from the moment a record is created

This makes record creation faster for end users and data management simpler for admins.

How does it work?

  1. In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon in the top navigation bar
  2. In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Properties
  3. Select an existing property (or create a new property)
  4. Click the Field type tab
  5. Set a default value for the property
  6. Once you’re ready, click Save (or click Create if creating a new property)

Once set:

  • The default value is automatically applied to all newly created records
  • Users can still change the value during record creation if needed
  • The default applies everywhere records are created, including via manual entry, workflows, and APIs

What’s not included

Default values are not currently supported for the following property field types:

  • Calculations
  • Rollups
  • Syncs
  • Files
