Hey everyone,
I’m currently syncing custom event data from Segment to HubSpot and associating them with our contacts. However, because we have a ton of events, manually mapping every single Segment property to HubSpot is becoming a massive bottleneck.
Is there a way to auto-capture these fields or dynamically map them so they automatically populate on the contact activity timeline?
Hi @prateek.s and welcome
It’s a pleasure to have you here!
Great question, thanks for asking the HubSpot Community!
HubSpot’s API does require each custom event property to be defined before data can be sent to it, so fields coming from a third-party source like Segment won’t be automatically detected.
However, I believe these can help:
And I’d love to hear from our Top Experts: Hi @evaldas, @Anton and @MichaelMa do you have suggestions or ways to achieve this, please?
Have a wonderful day and thanks so much!

I wouldn’t try to make every Segment property dynamically become a HubSpot property.
HubSpot won’t create those fields just because they show up in the payload. The event definition and the properties you want need to exist first, so maintaining that manually gets messy fast.
I’d keep a small schema between the two instead. Let Segment remain the event source, define only what you actually need in HubSpot, and if there are lots of events, manage those definitions from config through the API rather than field by field
I’d also keep most attributes on the event itself. Only promote something to a contact property if youre actually going to filter, score, route, or personalize on it.
That keeps the HubSpot schema much cleaner as the event list grows
Hi @prateek.s, wanted to check on you, can you confirm that you are all set, please?
And thanks for your help @MahdiEqbal!
