I have two numbers that will be properties. These numbers will belong to a company. Let’s say they are the number of people at a company, and the number of people at that company who quit.
This information will be provided to me in the form of a spreadsheet. I have been asked to report on these numbers, that cover 6 month periods. These 6 month periods go back 10 years and will continue indefinitely.
Short of making properties for each time period, how do I report on this data?
I want to avoid:
Property 1 - 6 Month Period 1

Property 1 - 6 Month Period 2

Property 1 - 6 Month Period 3

Property 1 - 6 Month Period 4

Property 1 - 6 Month Period 6

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 1

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 2

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 3

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 4

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 5

Property 2 - 6 Month Period 6

The request comes from a team that needs to compare each six month period at each company to the last.
My next difficulty comes in on how to report on this. I initially thought that just a table view may work, but the information is coming to me in the form of a formatted spreadsheet, so I don’t really know this type of report is the best solution. I thought a bar graph would be nice, but I don’t know how I would possibly include every company or make an individual report for every company, but this may end up being necessary.

After that, I don’t know how I would display them, as dashboards have a report limit of 20 or 30, and I will certainly have more companies than that.
Basically… how do you report on historical data? Do you have an external program to help track? An integration?
I appreciate any inputs and insights.

Hi @cecilia-thespot,

Without the use of additional objects / records, this is currently not possible. HubSpot custom reports will always look at the current value within a property and not let you report on historic changes to it. There is also no property type like an array or a timeline, meaning that there isn’t any way to store this in such an information that a report could pick it up without having to look into the past.

If you want to report on this in HubSpot, this would require an assisting object with records. Keeping your example of employees, each employee would get a start and end date, for example, and could then be visualized on a timeline. The report could be saved to the middle section of the company record and dynamically display this information for the company one is looking at.

Without custom objects (which require an Enterprise subscription), your imported information will be flattened. You could import it into a note or a multi-line text property and it would be accessible and readable – but not in a report format / visualization.

Hope this helps!
