Hi there! My name is Hadar Schoor, and I’m a Principal Customer Success Manager at HubSpot. I’ve spent the last nine years helping HubSpot customers grow better. This has come in many forms, the most obvious involving product implementation and strategic advice, the least obvious involving cultural and team transformation.
Lately, one of the most common challenges I hear about is hiring - finding great marketers, sales professionals, and customer service professionals to help organizations grow. It’s not a surprise that many companies are finding this challenging, especially in the midst of “The Great Resignation”.
I’ve done some research with internal hiring experts and leaders, and compiled these tips for my customers that might be helpful to the larger community:
When crafting your job description:
- Expand your hiring profile - Don’t get too focused on one niche and consider if you can make the role appealing to a wider group of professionals.
- Hire for potential - Focus more on people who have a point of view about how to grow something, and less on people who have already grown it. Look for people who have grown the social or email following of a university group, passion project, kid’s organization, etc.
- Promote key benefits that differentiate your company from other companies (i.e. No Meeting Fridays or a 4-day work week) and focus on the unique learning opportunities that will be available. What will people learn working for your company vs. any other? Share that openly in job posts and consider a blog post about your company’s go-to-market so candidates can understand what they’ll be working on.
When searching for candidates:
- Post about your job on LinkedIn and ask the hiring team, and your leadership team, to actively promote it, too. In your post, be sure to include a photo of the team, or a video of yourself talking about the opportunity to make it more engaging.
- Post on HubSpot’s Community Job’s Board.
- Post on a local university alumni job board. More universities than ever are teaching HubSpot, and you can see which universities are part of our Education Partner Program here to target your efforts.
- Host office hours with talent to allow potential candidates to have a more personal conversation with key members of the hiring team.
- Join community groups like Pavillion, BeOnDeck, etc., to build your network so that recruiting is easier in the future.
During the hiring process:
- Look at the hiring funnel and see if you can streamline the interview process - candidates in general get frustrated when the interview process isn’t streamlined, and it’s especially noticeable when they are interviewing at multiple places. Today, speed matters.
And if you need a little more help, consider:
- Checking out the recruiting firm HubSearch, started by a former HubSpot Recruiter.
- Checking out the HubSpot Solutions Partner directory and working with a partner.
- Downloading one of these offers from HubSpot:
I’m curious to hear from the community, too. What are your tips for hiring in 2022?
