Use case
We use HubSpot marketing emails as an active engagement channel, not just for one-way promotions. Many of our contacts regularly reply directly to these emails with questions, follow-ups, or clear buying intent.
This is expected behavior from a contact’s point of view. They receive an email from us and reply to it.
The problem
When those replies come back into HubSpot, Help Desk automatically marks most of them as spam because the “Marketing Emails” spam rule is enabled. That rule is applied globally and also catches direct replies to HubSpot-sent marketing emails, even when those replies are legitimate, human responses. As a result, these messages are silently routed to the spam folder with no reliable way to exclude or override this behavior.
There is currently:
* No option to exempt HubSpot-sent marketing emails from spam rules
* No allow list or override for these replies
* No distinction between external promotional spam and direct human replies
As a result, legitimate customer responses are silently lost. The team only finds them later, if at all, which leads to missed conversations, delayed responses, and a poor experience for contacts who clearly intended to engage.
Why this is a product issue
These are first-party emails generated and sent by HubSpot. Automatically classifying replies to them as spam inside HubSpot Help Desk breaks a very common real-world workflow for teams that actively engage through marketing emails.
Workarounds like disabling marketing spam entirely or manually rescuing messages from spam are not viable at scale.
What’s needed
At minimum, HubSpot should support one of the following:
* A first-party exception for HubSpot marketing emails
* An override or allow rule for replies to those emails
* Smarter logic that treats direct replies differently from inbound promotional spam
